What do the editor of Macedonian TV, the adviser to Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture and the deputy director of Lithuanian Educational Planning all have in common? They and 11 other professionals from a total of 14 nations are sharpening their English skills this summer at the UA Center for English as a Second Language.

The group is among this year's Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows, part of the Fulbright program that is funded by Congress and the State Department, and run by the Institute of International Education. The UA is one of only four universities in the United States selected to host the program.

The Humphrey Fellows, all professionals at their career mid-point, are in Tucson for eight weeks, and come from as far away as Madagascar, Tunisia, Mozambique and Laos. They will leave Tucson beginning Aug. 1 to spend another 10 months in programs at other colleges and universities around the country.

The program forms the basis for lasting professional and cultural ties between citizens of the United States and their professional counterparts in other countries
