Track Cats Have Sights Set on NCAA Titles
On June 6, the field events start at 2:30 p.m. CDT and the running events begin at 5:30 p.m.

The University of Arizona No. 3 men's and No. 10 women's track and field teams will compete in the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake Stadium on June 6-9.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the field events start at 2:30 p.m. CDT and the running events begin at 5:30 p.m. On Friday, the field events are set to start at 2 p.m. and the running events will begin at 5:35 p.m. On Saturday, the field events will commence at 10 a.m. and the running events will kick off at 11:03 a.m.

In the latest polls, the men moved up three spots from last week to find themselves at No. 3 in the country. They are joined by five other Pac-12 schools. USC moved up four spots to No. 9. Oregon climbed six spots to No. 15. Stanford improved by two spots to No. 16. Arizona State fell three spots to No. 17. UCLA climbed into the rankings and sits at No. 24.

The women slid two spots from last week and are now No. 10 in the country. Arizona is accompanied by four Pac-12 schools. Oregon moved up two spots to No. 3. Stanford moved up three spots to No. 7. USC climbed nine spots to No. 14. Arizona State fell four spots to No. 16.

The Arizona men will compete against No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 2 LSU, No. 4 Texas, No. 5 Florida State and No. 6 Florida among many others. The women will compete against No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Kansas, No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Texas A&M and No. 5 Clemson and many other schools.

On the men's side, Arizona will send eight athletes to the NCAA Championships. The UA men's 11 entries are tied for the eighth-highest number of entries in the competition.

Junior James Eichberger will compete in the 800 meters; he enters the preliminary round of the event with the fourth-best time in the field. Sophomore Lawi Lalang will run the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters. He has the second-best time for the 1,500-meter race and the 24th-best time for the 5K.

Senior Stephen Sambu will double in the 5K and 10K at the NCAA Championships. He sits at No. 16 in the 5,000 meters and No. 3 in the 10,000 meters. Junior Nick Ross will compete in the high jump and the triple jump. He is tied for the top mark in the high jump and has the seventh-best mark in the triple jump.

Junior Edgar Rivera-Morales is tied for the third-best mark in the high jump. Freshman Jovon Cunningham will compete in the triple jump. He has the No. 12 mark heading into the competition.

Sophomore Bozidar Antunovic will compete in the shot put. He has the No. 13 mark entering the competition. Junior Tyler Johnson holds the No. 7 mark in the hammer throw out of 24 competitors.

For the women, Arizona will send five athletes and one relay team to the NCAA Championships. The Arizona women's seven entries are tied for the 10th-highest number of entries in the meet.

Sophomore Elvin Kibet will compete in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. She has the 16th-best time in the 5K and the eighth-best time in the 10K. Junior Jen Bergman will also compete in the 10,000 meters. She has the 11th-best time of all 24 competitors in the 10K.

Junior Georganne Moline will compete in the 400-meter hurdles. She has the third-best time of the 24 athletes in the event. The women's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of sophomore Shapri Romero, senior Echos Blevins, sophomore Tamara Pridgett and Moline hold the eighth-best time in the event.

Junior Brigetta Barrett will compete in the high jump. She is tied for the second-best mark in the event. Senior Taylor Bush will compete in the hammer throw with the 11th-best mark out of the 24 competitors.

ESPNU/ESPN3 will televise the final two hours of the meet live from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. PDT on Saturday. ESPN3 will have a live broadcast window on Thursday beginning at 2:15 p.m. PDT and Friday at 3:15 p.m. PDT.

In addition, other than ESPNU/ESPN3 windows, there will be a free live webcast of the championships available at www.NCAA.com, which includes all day Wednesday and early portions of the meet Thursday through Saturday. Live results will be available at flashresults.com.
