A Major Force in Silicon Valley

Oct. 16, 2015

Teresa Briggs arrived at the University of Arizona as a first-generation college student and quickly caught the Wildcat spirit, serving as a cheerleader from her freshman through junior years.

After graduating with a degree in accounting, Briggs accepted a position with Deloitte in San Francisco, where she began a steady climb through the leadership ranks. In 2006, she was named Silicon Valley managing partner and was charged with doubling Deloitte's Silicon Valley practice. She succeeded.

Briggs was named the first female managing partner in the 100-year history of Deloitte's Bay Area office. Two years later, she became the vice chair and West Region managing partner, in which role she helps drive national and regional strategy. In recognition of her achievements, Briggs has been named a Woman of Influence in both San Francisco and Silicon Valley.

Throughout her career, and while maintaining a family, her dedication to the UA has not wavered. Briggs travels regularly to Tucson to speak to undergraduate audit classes. She is a member of the UA Eller College of Management's board of advisers and has made regular and significant financial donations to the college.

For her inspiring professional success and her steadfast support of the UA and the Eller College of Management, the college has named Briggs its 2015 Alumna of the Year.

The UA Alumni Association will honor all recipients of the 2015 Alumni of the Year Awards during an Oct. 23 event to be held 3-5 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Student Union Memorial Center. For more information, contact the Alumni Association at 520-621-7576.
