When Rebecca Kuhn thinks back to her graduate studies at the University of Arizona College of Nursing in the late 1970s, she remembers the agonizing essay exams in her physiology class, the labor of using typewriters and data punch cards.
Kuhn also recalls the joy of bonding with her classmates over hard work and Wildcat athletics, as well as the faculty who challenged and inspired her.
Today, Kuhn is the executive vice president for community delivery at Banner Health in Phoenix. Over the course of her three-decade career, she has held positions of increasing responsibility at five major medical centers in the Phoenix area. Joan Shaver, the College of Nursing dean, describes her leadership as "shaping a health system for tomorrow and making Arizona communities stronger."
Kuhn has promoted nursing advancement in Arizona, nationally and internationally through leadership roles in professional organizations such as the American College of Healthcare Executives. She also has contributed to more than 20 publications and 40 presentations, and lent her skills and knowledge to numerous community organizations.
Kuhn's achievements have led to her receiving a number of awards, including being named one of the state's Top 100 Business Women, the 2015 Most Influential Women and a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
For her leadership and accomplishments in her field, and her career of service to the people of Arizona, the College of Nursing has named Kuhn as its 2015 Alumna of the Year.
The UA Alumni Association will honor all recipients of the 2015 Alumni of the Year Awards during an Oct. 23 event to be held 3-5 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Student Union Memorial Center. For more information, contact the Alumni Association at 520-621-7576.
