College of Engineering Solar Oven Throw Down

When: October 11, 2017 3:00pm

The public is invited to attend one of the College of Engineering's hottest events.

More than 500 UA engineering students will compete in this mass cook-off, testing and demonstrating low-cost solar ovens they designed and built from scratch. While freshmen showcase their creativity and mathematical prowess in a bid to most accurately calculate the expected temperatures of their thermodynamic designs, faculty and industry judges will elect winners and award prizes.

There will be smoke! Some solar ovens at the annual event – sponsored by W.L Gore and Associates – have been known to reach nearly 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
