Edible and Medicinal Plants With Dave Morris at Boyce Thompson Arboretum
Have you tasted the sweet, unique flour that can be ground from mesquite pods? How about prickly-pear cactus fruit jelly, or a nopalito? The pickled strips of a prickly-pear cactus pad? At the UA's Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, Choctaw tribal nation member and ethno-botanist David Morris will guide a walk where you'll see prickly-pear cacti, the towering stalks of our native Agave chrysantha, and mesquite trees, with a chance to taste a few "desert edible" samples ranging from prickly-pear jelly to nopalitos, mesquite flour and agave nectar.
Guide note: this tour explores the Curandero Trail, which has steep sections that are not suitable for visitors who use wheelchairs or walkers.
The event included with admission: $12.50 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12, free for children under 5. Free to arboretum members and Arizona State Parks pass-holders.
