Edible and Medicinal Desert Plants With Jim Shepherd at Boyce Thompson Arboretum
When: June 02, 2018 8:00am
Have you tasted the sweet, unique flour that can be ground from mesquite pods? How about prickly pear cactus fruit jelly, or a nopalito? The pickled strips of a prickly pear cactus pad? At the UA's Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, desert plant enthusiast Jim Shepherd will guide a one-hour walk where you'll see prickly pear cacti, the towering stalks of our native Agave chrysantha and mesquite trees, with a chance to taste a few "desert edible" samples ranging from prickly pear jelly to nopalitos, mesquite flour and agave nectar.
Editor's note: this tour explores the Curandero Trail, which has steep sections that are not suitable for visitors who use wheelchairs or walkers.
