Confluencenter Show & Tell – 'MalintZINE, MAS y Mas'

When: April 22, 2019 6:00pm to 7:30pm

Show & Tell is an interdisciplinary, multimedia presentation series presented by the UA Confluencenter for Creative Inquiry. Presentations are held at Petroglyphs in downtown Tucson.

This show and tell, titled "MalintZINE, MAS y Más," will highlight young women, queer and femme contributions to Tucson youth activism, especially in the fight for ethnic studies and in youth participatory action research nationally. Presenters will share the violence they experienced in activist work and a transformative justice framework to address it. This event will be hosted by our emcee, Lydia Otero, associate professor in the UA's department of Mexican American Studies, and will feature a local music act to kick things off.

Speakers and talks:

  • Leilani Clark, local grassroots organizer: "Reclaiming the Lost Her: Stories of the Tucson Ethnic Studies Movement"
  • Kim Dominguez, coordinator of feminist engagement at the UA Women and Gender Resource Center: "MalintZINE: Feminist Fight for Ethnic Studies"
  • Vanessa Ojeda-Gomez, a UA undergraduate student, will make additional comments regarding the legacy of this ongoing activism with contributors to MalintZINE
