'Visual Narratives' Exhibit Reception

When: July 25, 2019 3:00pm to 4:30pm

Join Worlds of Words for a reception for our latest exhibit!

Worlds of Words in the University of Arizona College of Education has launched "Visual Narratives: Connecting Across Languages and Cultures," an exhibit of global picturebooks that tell stories primarily through visual images. The exhibit is inspired by "Silent Books, from the World to Lampedusa and Back," a traveling exhibit of global books from the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).

WOW's exhibit includes the traveling IBBY "Silent Book" collection, but this particular set of books will only be in the U.S. until the first week of August, when they return to Europe. These visual narratives were collected from a range of countries as part of an IBBY project for children in refugee camps in Italy. The focus on visual images, rather than words, invited children from many different cultures and languages to engage with constructing their own stories from the illustrations.

The reception includes browsing the visual narratives, hands-on activities and refreshemnts. RSVP to wow@email.arizona.edu is preferred but not required.
