Panel Discussion – 'Overcoming Social, Economic, and Environmental Challenges for the Americas and the World: How Can Science, Technology, and Innovation Help Find Solutions?'

The university will host delegates from around the world to discuss the need and value of science, health and engineering in developing and informing policy, in policy informing science needs, and in using science as a tool for diplomacy during the 2019 Science, Health and Engineering and Policy Diplomacy Conference.

This free public panel discussion will kick off the conference. The eminent panel will discuss "Overcoming Social, Economic, and Environmental Challenges for the Americas and the World: How Can Science, Technology, and Innovation Help Find Solutions?" Speakers' comments will be followed by time for audience questions.

Panelists:

  • Dr. Vaughan Turekian, Executive Director of Policy and Global Affairs at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, and former Science Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State
  • Dr. Cherry Murray, Director, Biosphere 2 Institute, and former Dean of the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Harvard University
  • Dr. Ronit Prawer, Eastern U.S. Region Director, U.K. Science and Innovation Network

The discussion will be led by Dr. E. William Colglazier. Dr. Colglazier is Senior Scholar and Editor-in-Chief of Science & Diplomacy, a publication of the AAAS Center for Science Diplomacy, and also a former Science Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State.
