Maximizing bone health through dietary intake and physical activity will be discussed in “Nutrition and Exercise for Bone Health,” a free presentation with light refreshments provided.
Speaker Linda Houtkooper, Ph.D., is a professor with the UA Department of Nutritional Sciences and an associate director of UA Cooperative Extension programs. A registered dietitian and Fellow in the American College of Sports Medicine, Houtkooper will share her expertise in preventing osteoporosis by focusing on nutrition and exercise.
In addition to being an innovative leader in the research of bone health, she has assisted in developing national models for accurately assessing body composition in children and track and field athletes. She also is a nationally recognized author, best known for her books “BEST Exercise Program for Osteoporosis Prevention” and “Winning Sports Nutrition.”

The lecture is part of the 2012 series of “Living Healthy With Arthritis” monthly talks presented by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center at the UA College of Medicine - Tucson and supported through the Susan and Saul Tobin Endowment for Research and Education in Rheumatology.
Lectures are held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. There is a parking fee of $1.50 per hour, cash only, in the UAMC visitor/patient parking garage. Free parking is available after 5 p.m. in the UA Zone 1 permit and metered parking lot 2030, just south of the parking garage at East Mabel Street and Martin Avenue.
