UApresents - Christine Goerke

Thursday, February 13, 2014 - 7:30pm to 12:00am

Christine Goerke will appear with UApresents as part of the Tucson Desert Song Festival. She will perform songs and arias of Gluck, Poulenc, Berg, Wagner and Brahms.

Goerke began her career in the Metropolitan Opera's Young Artist Program, singing in her first major role for that company in 1997. She has gone on to perform at most of the world's major opera houses, including Royal Opera House Covent Garden, New York City Opera and La Scala. Her performances with orchestras have included the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She has sung much of the great soprano repertoire, beginning with Mozart and Handel heroines and more recently earning critical raves in the dramatic Strauss and Wagner roles, notably the title roles of Elektra and Ariadne auf Naxos.

"Goerke displays a big, blazing soprano that not only has gale-force power and sheen...but also seamless legato and a whole paintbox of colors." -The Wall Street Journal
