'The Martian' Panel Discussion

Wednesday, October 7, 2015 - 5:30pm

Wondering how science fiction stacks up against real-life Martian science? Flandrau Science Center presents this panel discussion for "The Martian" movie-goers, readers of Andy Weir's The Martian and general audiences who are curious about Mars.

The panel will be comprised of three of UA's preeminent experts on different aspects of Mars: Wolfgang Fink, Alfred McEwen – who recently co-authored the NASA report finding strong evidence of flowing water on the Red Planet – and Gene Giacomelli. The discussion will be moderated by Susan Swanberg, distinguished science journalist and assistant professor in the School of Journalism.

Following introductions, Swanberg will ask the experts some beginning questions about their work and their thoughts on "The Martian," and then will open the floor for questions from the audience.

Seating in the Planetarium Theater is limited. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the event will begin at 5:45 p.m.
