The Fred Fox School of Music at the University of Arizona presents its second Graduate Student Music Conference (2017 UA-GSMC). Titled "Musicology Across Boundaries."

The conference will feature a keynote address titled "Academic Musicologists as Civil Rights Activists: Facing a Trump Presidency," which will be given by Tamara Levitz, professor of comparative literature and musicology at UCLA. In her address, Levitz "will clarify and define through historical analysis how and whether academic musicologists can function as political activists in their professional roles as teachers, administrators, and researchers." Levitz will also lead a student workshop titled "'The Role of the Public Intellectual': A Critical Workshop on Public Musicology," which will take place on the second day of the conference.

In addition, this student-run conference will feature thirteen presentations by student scholars from around the country on topics related to contemporary musicology and music theory. Moreover, in an effort to join all areas of musical study and creative activity, the conference will also present a Leo Brouwer-themed concert featuring UA Bolton Guitar students.

The keynote address, concert and all presentations will be available through livestream (MST), please join us!
