Talk – The Slants: A Battle Over Trademark Rights

When: April 06, 2017 12:00pm

The Law School through AIPCS is hosting The Slants, an Asian-American band. The Slants are currently awaiting a decision from the U.S. Supreme Court on whether they can register their band name for trademark protection. The Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) denied their application roughly six years ago alleging that it is disparaging toward people of Asian decent. The Supreme Court heard oral arguments for the case in January and will likely have a decision on their case in July. We will be hosting them to talk about their case over lunch, and then they will be putting on a concert in the law school lobby or courtyard at around 7:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!
