Cinco de Mayo Sobriety Run and Healthy Food Festival

When: April 30, 2017 7:30am

Run/Walk: 7:30 a.m.

Healthy Breakfast: 9:30 a.m.

Who: UA-Mexican American Studies, Amistades, Inc.

Why: To promote healthy living as opposed to alcoholism and the desecration of a historic date in history

On April 30, students from the Intro to Mexican American Studies class at the University of Arizona have organized the 4th annual Cinco de Mayo Sobriety Run/Walk. Every year during Cinco de Mayo, rather than celebrate a historic Mexican battle against the French, this "holiday" has been converted into and has descended into a beer/liquor fest. The objective of the sobriety run/walk is to bring about consciousness regarding the rampant alcoholism that plagues communities nationwide. And it is also to promote healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.

A healthy brunch will be provided by the students. Students will also be making healthy traditional drinks, including Chia for the runners. There will also be ongoing presentations at tables regarding healthy foods, plus spoken word by our very own Cintli Rodriguez and Gonzalez, as well as a dance performance by UA Folklórico Miztontli.

Again, the ceremonial run/walk, led by Calpolli Teoxicalli, will begin at 7:30 a.m. Everyone runs or walks together and no one gets left behind. The food begins at 9:30 a.m. Hope to see you there.
