One of the world’s most prolific experts on bullying will be coming to The University of Arizona to lead a workshop on the topic.

University of South Australia adjunct research professor Kenneth Rigby will lead the Oct. 13 workshop, which will be held at Steward Observatory, 933 N. Cherry Ave.

Rigby’s daylong event is directed at educators, administrators and counselors. He will cover a number of topics, including basic facts about bullying, how it affects youth, what schools are doing about the problem and ways communities can help.

Rigby is well known for his research on bullying and peer victimization and has spoken on both topics in Canada, Israel, Greece, South Africa, Singapore, New Zealand and other countries.

Sheri Bauman, an associate professor in the UA's educational psychology department, will introduce Rigby before the workshop. The workshop is being held in conjunction with Bauman’s “School Bullying Prevention and Intervention” distance learning course.

Registration is required and costs $50, which will cover the cost of workshop materials. Discounted registration is available at $40 for Bauman’s education students and Arizona School Counselors Association members.

The association, along with the West Regional Equity Network and the UA’s educational psychology department are sponsoring the event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. To learn more, call 626-7500.
