Arizona Respiratory Sciences Center Appoints Tara L. McMahon Director of Development

Tara L. McMahon has been appointed director of development for the Arizona Respiratory Sciences Center, a Center of Excellence at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.

McMahon is responsible for managing and directing all fund-raising activities in support of the Arizona Respiratory Sciences Center. She will assist Center Director Fernando Martinez, M.D., a world-renowned asthma researcher, in developing new projects and initiatives. She also will oversee the Center's participation in CampaignARIZONA, a major fund-raising campaign seeking to raise $1 billion for the UA.

McMahon previously was director of development for the UA College of Engineering and Mines, where total giving to the College increased from $1.7 million in fiscal year 1999 to $3.9 million in fiscal year 2000. From 1995-99 she was director of university relations for Allied Signal Inc., Morristown, N.J. She also has served as associate director of the U.S. Peace Corps, Prague, Czech Republic, 1993-95; was assistant Washington counsel for the Health Insurance Association of America, 1989-92; and served as majority counsel for then-Sen. Dennis DeConcini on the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, 1987-89.

McMahon graduated with highest distinction from the UA College of Law in 1987; she earned a bachelor's degree in education from the UA in 1977.

The Arizona Respiratory Sciences Center is internationally known for its research into the causes and modes of development of asthma, chronic obstructive lung disease and sleep apnea. The Center brings together experts in immunology, pathology, radiology, internal medicine, pediatrics, pharmacology, epidemiology, molecular genetics, computer science and many other disciplines to attack respiratory disease in children and adults.
