In the first time since 1977, University of Arizona students will be hosting a major concert at Arizona Stadium.
The upcoming "Last Smash Platinum Bash," will feature musical talents such as Jay-Z, Kelly Clarkson, Third Eye Blind and the Veronicas.
The Associated Students of the University of Arizona is presenting the major stadium concert. The last concert of this stature to be held at the Arizona Stadium was when Fleetwood Mac performed more than 30 years ago.
The concert will be held April 29 with doors opening at 5 p.m. UA students can begin purchasing tickets on Friday at 9 a.m. by visiting the ASUA Web site. Tickets go on sale to members of the public on the same day, but beginning at noon. Tickets cost $25.95 to $150.95 and a limited number of tickets that are considered "the best seats" will go for $200.
The concert builds on the success of the Kanye West "Glow in the Dark Tour," which ASUA brought to the UA McKale Center one year ago. The concert drew more than 9,000 attendees.
ASUA president Tommy Bruce has said it has been a top priority during his second term to rekindle a stadium concert by bringing in top named platinum recording artists to the UA to perform.
The upcoming concert features various internationally known recording artists from different genres.
Legendary multi-platinum rap artist Jay-Z will headline the concert. This marks one of the first ever college stops in his musical career. It is also his only American concert of 2009 to date.
Kelly Clarkson, a Grammy Award winning artist, will co-head the concert. Also performing is the San Francisco-based alternative rock band, Third Eye Blind. Also, Australian twin sisters who make up The Veronicas will perform pop-rock music.
