College of Education to Honor 4 Leaders for Service

Dec. 15, 1999

The UA College of Education honored four Arizonans in December for their support of public education and programs at the college.

Receiving the Distinguished Service Awards were Mary Garcia, president of the Arizona State Board of Education and superintendent of Sunnyside Unified School District; and Barbara Cropper, a Casa Grande resident who has been an early childhood educator and school board member and is an active supporter of the University and college.

Receiving the Outstanding Achievement Awards were UA leaders and College of Education alumni Kent Rollins and Joel Valdez. Rollins is president of the Arizona Alumni Association and the University's director of alumni. Valdez, former Tucson city manager, is senior vice president for business affairs.

The four received awards during campus ceremonies for students graduating in December from the College of Education with master's or doctoral degrees.
