The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, or MPSF, has named Arizona track and field head coach Fred Harvey as the men's Coach of the Year and Lawi Lalang as the men's Athlete of the Year for the achievements during the indoor season.

Harvey took an Arizona men's team that had not finished in the top-25 indoors in the past three seasons back to the top this year, with the team taking 13th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station Texas – the team's best indoor finish since a 14th-place showing in 2007.

In addition to his work on the national level, Harvey coached his student-athletes to a second-place finish at the MPSF Championships in Seattle this season, scoring nearly 40 more points than their fifth-place showing last season at the event. The squad was just five-and-a-half points behind team champion, Stanford.

Harvey was the MPSF Coach of the Year for the women's team last season.

Lalang splashed onto the scene in a big way for the Arizona men's team, playing a huge role in its rise back to prominence. Despite never having run on an indoor track and only competing on U.S. soil for the first time in January, Lalang was the MPSF Champion in the 3,000-meters with a time of 7:54.32 and automatically qualified for the indoor championships, where he earned second-team All-America accolades.

Lalang earned first-team All-America recognition for his work on the men's distance medley relay this season that set a school record and finished fifth at the NCAA Championships.  His time of 3:59.13 in the mile was just shy of a qualifying mark for the NCAA meet and set the Arizona freshman record for the event.

The MPSF is comprised of all Pac-10 and Big West teams that have an indoor program. Of the past eight awards given out for the indoor season (Men's/Women's Coach of the Year, Men's/Women's Athlete of the Year) by the federation, five have gone to Arizona.

Arizona begins the outdoor season this weekend as the team hosts the Willie Williams Classic in Tucson at Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
