UA employees and students will have to pay more for UA-Sun Tran bus passes.

The new rates for UA customers is $70 for a semester pass, $112 for an academic pass and $156 for an annual pass.

Purchasing passes by mail for 2000-2001 began July 12 and goes into effect on Friday, Aug. 11. Registered students and employees on the UA payroll should have received an application by mail.

Passes are also available through Parking and Transportation Services, in the University Services Building lobby, 888 N. Euclid Ave., starting Monday, Aug. 7. For more information call 621-1800.

The increase in prices is directly related to the recent Sun Tran bus fare increase.

"Whereas Sun Tran did raise our rates substantially, we are still subsidizing up to 50 percent of the bus pass rates for our UA constituency," said Gary Thomson, Parking and Transportation Services associate director. "Our customer rates are still significantly less than buying a pass directly from Sun Tran.

"We are honored to continue to offer to our students, staff and faculty members this important service at a discounted rate," he said.
