The Pacific-10 Conference has named Lacey Nymeyer of The University of Arizona as its 2008-09 Woman of the Year award winner. The Wildcat swimmer will represent the conference as its nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

A native of Tucson, Ariz., Nymeyer is a six-time record-holder at Arizona. On the heels of a Pac-10 individual championship in the 100y freestyle in 2008, Nymeyer earned her second consecutive Pac-10 Swimmer of the Year nod. She was the 2007 NCAA Champion in the 200y freestyle (1:43.49). Thanks to a pool-record time of 47.50, Nymeyer earned a second individual championship in 2008 in the 100y freestyle.

In that senior campaign, Nymeyer was also a part of three NCAA and U.S. record-setting Arizona relay teams. The Wildcats ultimately won the 2008 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, outpacing second-place Auburn by 136 team points. Twenty-six times during her collegiate career Nymeyer collected athletic All-American honors.

On the international stage, Nymeyer has established herself as one of America's finest relay swimmers. She was a  world record-holder in 2007-08 as a member of the 800m freestyle relay that captured gold at the 2007 FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

Her athletic resume also includes American records in the 400y medley relay, 400y freestyle relay, 200y freestyle relay, and 800y freestyle relay. In 2006 Nymeyer topped the podium at the Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria, B.C. in the 400m and 800m freestyle relays. Most recently, Nymeyer swam on Team USA at the Beijing Olympics, advancing to the semifinals in the 100m freestyle and earning a silver medal in the 400m freestyle relay.

Nymeyer, a four-time University of Arizona Academic Champion, has excelled in the classroom as well. Boasting a 3.89 GPA, the physical education major was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic first team and Region VIII All-Academic team in 2007-08.

Following her senior campaign Nymeyer was selected as the Toyo Tires Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's swimming. She was also the UA's female recipient of the Pac-10 Conference Medal. The Phoenix Women's Sports Association recognized Nymeyer as its Athlete/Scholar award winner.

In addition to her athletic and academic accolades, Nymeyer has been an active leader in the Tucson community. As part of team service projects she collected and distributed household goods to the Haven House for Women and the Casa De Los Ninos home for children.

She also spends numerous hours volunteering her time as a reader at local elementary schools, a young adult teacher at her church and a swim clinic and lesson instructor to local youth.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors senior student-athletes for their collegiate achievements in service, leadership, athletics and academics. The top 10 honorees from Divisions I, II and III will be honored, and the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year announced, at a dinner in Indianapolis on Oct. 18, 2009.

Nymeyer was formerly a Wildcat teammate of Whitney Myers, the 2007 NCAA Woman of the Year.
