Likins Invites UA Community to Participate in Day of Caring

Aug. 30, 2000

UA President Peter Likins invites the University community to participate in the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona Day of Caring 2000 on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

This event will mobilize people in Tucson to assist local non-profit community organizations with projects not completed due to lack of time, volunteers or resources.

"Because I believe our University faculty and staff would be a great addition to the Day of Caring 2000, I would like to encourage all deans, department heads and directors to support this event by allowing your employees to volunteer up to four hours on that day," said University President Peter Likins.

All employee participation is voluntary and subject to the approval of the dean, department head or director. This will not create timekeeping issues for exempt employees, but will require special timekeeping procedures for non-exempt employees.

To deal with the timekeeping issues from non-exempt employees, as well as general questions, there is a frequently asked question document online with Human Resources..

For other questions not covered, contact Linda Charlip, senior compensation analyst, at 626-7651 or e-mail at charlip@u.arizona.edu or Suzanne Zimbardo, payroll manager at 621-9097 or e-mail at zimbardo@arizona.edu

Volunteer employee groups or individuals representing academic units or departments should register through the Office of Community Relations. Once registered, individuals will receive their assignment for that day, including agency location, number of hours required, dress requirements, and other information. Volunteers will receive a Day of Caring 2000 T-shirt identifying them as a UA volunteer.

To register, e-mail Teresa Welborn in the Office of Community Relations at welbornt@u.arizona.edu or call 626-8122.
