MAP Founder Receives Toastmaster International Award

Valerina Quintana, co-founder of the UA's career and leadership program, Moving Ahead Professionally, received the Competent Toastmaster award from Toastmasters International.

Toastmasters is an international organization dedicated to helping people enhance their communication skills. As a Competent Toastmaster , Quintana completed 10 assigned speeches.

Currently the coordinator for the UA's Career Development Center, Quintana is a published writer who has authored fiction and non-fiction works as well as poetry and research reports. She is well-respected on the local and national levels, and she has received numerous awards, honors, and appointments for her commitment to women, minorities and the arts. The Hispanic Professional Action Committee recognized Quintana for her outstanding community service in 1998.

As a founding member of "Toast for Lunch," one of two UA Toastmasters clubs, Quintana recognized the value of having a Toastmasters'club that was accessible to the University's staff.
