University of Arizona head men's basketball coach Sean Miller was selected by USA Basketball to serve as a court coach for the 2011 USA Basketball Men's World University Games team training camp.
The training camp is scheduled to take place July 29-Aug. 7 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 2011 World University Games are scheduled for Aug. 12-23 in Shenzen, China.
Miller was one of three college coaches selected to serve as court coaches for the training camp, joining Virginia's Tony Bennett and Virginia Commonwealth's Shaka Smart. Purdue's Matt Painter is USA Basketball's World University Games head coach and is assisted by Tennessee's Cuonzo Martin and Butler's Brad Stevens.
"I am honored to be a court coach for this year's World University Games team as a part of USA Basketball," Miller said. "I look forward to contributing in any way I can to the 2011 World University Games team in helping Matt Painter and his staff in their quest to win gold."
Having just completed his second season at Arizona, Miller has a 46-23 (.667) record to go with a 166-70 (.704) overall mark in seven seasons as a college head coach. He guided Arizona to 30 victories and its 12th Pac-10 championship in 2010-11 with a 14-4 league record.
Along the way, the Wildcats posted an eight-game win streak and were nationally ranked in both polls for the last eight polling periods consecutively. The UA advanced to the NCAA Tournament West Regional final.
For his efforts, Miller earned Pac-10 Conference and NABC all-District 20 Coach-of-the-Year honors.
This is Miller's second stint as part of a World University Games contingent. He was a member of the United States' 1991 World University Games team that earned a gold medal for coach P.J. Carlesimo in Sheffield, England.
