On Saturday, September 2 on KUAT-FM (90.5/89.7) the popular radio program, A Prairie Home Companion (APHC), will move to a new time slot, 4 p.m.

The two-hour radio program currently airs on Saturdays at 6 p.m. The reason for the move is to make it more convenient for listeners to tune in for the entire two-hour program. Radio station manager Ed Kupperstein commented that listener levels for the Saturday evening time slot have been eroding for some time. We've noticed there hasn't been as large of a tune-in for A Prairie Home Companion as there used to be, and the audience doesn't stay with the program as long.

We hope that by moving the show to the earlier time, it will give more listeners an opportunity to hear the complete show before they leave us for other weekend activities.

Listeners also have the option of tuning in to sister radio station KUAZ (89.1 FM/1550 AM) to hear APHC on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. immediately following NPR's Weekend Edition.

APHC features comedy, music and storytelling with host Garrison Keillor. The program's home base is the Fitzgerald Theatre in St. Paul, Minn., although Keillor tours extensively throughout the country. Original comedy sketches are performed by Keillor and his cast, punctuated by sound-effects from sound engineer Tom Keith. The stories are most often told from the perspective of the fictional Midwestern town of Lake Wobegon. Each week a guest musical artist is featured, such as guitarist Leo Kottke, singer Greg Brown, jazz pianist-singer Diana Krall and others.

In addition to carrying weekend specialty programs such as APHC, public radio station KUAT-FM (90.5/89.7) is southern Arizona's only classical music station. Broadcasting from Tucson, it also serves many other communities in Arizona including the Catalina foothills and Sierra Vista at 89.7, Safford at 89.5, Nogales at 91.7 and Bisbee at 88.9. Sister station KUAZ (89.1 FM/1550 AM) features NPR newsmagazines and mainstream jazz. KUAZ-FM is rebroadcast to Sierra Vista at translator 91.7. For information about the stations, call 621-5828.
