The University of Arizona defensive lineman Brooks Reed and volleyball captain Paige Weber were among this year's Tom Hansen Conference Medal winners.

The Pacific-10 Conference medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership.

In April, Reed, a standout pass rusher, was selected 10th in the second round of the National Football League Draft by the Houston Texans, the 42nd overall selection overall.

That matched the UA's most recent second-round pick, tight end Rob Gronkowski who was drafted last year by the New England Patriots.

Weber, a UA accounting major, has earned numerous awards for her academic and athletic performance. Last year, while serving as the volleyball team captain, Weber was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team – the third consecutive year on the conference’s first team.

Recipients will be honored next year at the State Farm Pride of the Pac-12 Breakfast, which willl be held in Los Angeles in conjunction with the Pacific Life Pac-12 Men's and Women's Basketball tournaments.

The Tom Hansen Conference Medal was named in honor of the 26-year veteran commissioner of the Pac-10 Conference. Hansen retired in June of 2009. The award was first named in his honor in 2008-09.

The league officially became the Pac-12 Conference this month with the affiliation of the University of Colorado and the University of Utah.
