University of Arizona undergraduates looking for a substantial boost to their financial acumen now have access to the finance minor program, offered through the Eller College of Management beginning in summer 2013.
The finance minor is one of six business minor options available to students pursuing majors outside the Eller College.
The program provides students with an understanding of basic financial theory, applied financial analysis and financial markets. Elective courses include principles of financial management, personal investing, small business finance and real estate principles.
"Training in finance is something employers value, whether you're going into business, the nonprofit sector, or government," said Rick Sias, finance department head and Tyler Family Endowed Chair in Finance. "Apart from the professional benefits, a minor in finance will personally benefit students as well – they will be prepared to understand and make better financial decisions for themselves."
The 18-unit program is designed to be completed during one summer. After finishing two prerequisite courses during the fall and/or spring semester, students focus on their finance coursework during the summer sessions. Students only need to be on campus during summer I session – pre-session and Summer II classes are delivered online.
