UA President to Deliver Annual State of the University Talk

Robert N. Shelton's address in Tucson, open to the public, is expected to touch on topics including the budget, the election and progress toward achieving the University's missions.

President Robert N. Shelton will deliver his annual State of the University address to the University of Arizona community on Thursday, Nov. 4, in the Student Union Memorial Center on the Tucson campus.

This year's talk, at 12:30 p.m. in the Irving & Rose Levine Grand Ballroom, is expected to cover a variety of topics including budget challenges, the election and the importance of research to the University's mission.

"The State of the University is an opportunity to connect with the many folks who value and support the University of Arizona in its mission to serve the people of Arizona," Shelton said. "In this brief address, we will document progress, challenges and renew our land-grant mission to the state."

The lecture, which is open to the public, will follow a lunch at noon. Tables that seat 10 can be reserved for $400 each. Guests just attending the lecture are invited to listen from chairs in the back of the room.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Free parking will be available in the Second Street Garage. The event is sponsored by the Office of External Relations and the UA Foundation.

Shelton also will give a State of the University address in Phoenix on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 122 N. Second St.

Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., lunch is at noon and the talk will begin at 12:30 p.m. People who wish to attend the address only may do so for free. Members of the public who wish to have lunch may reserve a seat or a table (seats are $40 each; a table that seats 10 is $400).

Two hour complimentary parking will be available in the Hyatt Tennis Center Garage adjacent to the Hayatt Regency Hotel.
