Michael Mulcahy, assistant professor of media arts at the University of Arizona in Tucson, recently completed a short video documentary titled "Towards Efficiency." The video centers around scientific management pioneers Frank and Lillian Gilbreth, who used cameras as part of their investigation of the body at work. Their goal was to create a theory of movement that would cover all motions in every case, and they attempted to use the "objective" power of photography to solve both the practical and ideological labor "problems" of the early 20th century.

"Towards Efficiency" is currently appearing in several film festivals.

Mulcahy is now in production on a video documentary about the training and work of correctional officers in the Arizona Department of Corrections.
