University of Arizona students have launched "I Will," a campaign to end "rape culture" by raising awareness of sexual assault and promoting consent through a variety of campus events, including a resource fair, workshops and an information session with the dean of students.

The campaign is the result of efforts by student volunteers and the guidance and cooperation of a number of campus organizations.

Signing the "I Will" pledge provides the campus community with an opportunity to show support toward ending rape culture, a term that is used to describe the normalization of sexual violence in society. A video featuring several campus leaders, including UA President Ann Weaver Hart, outlines the importance of the effort.

"We focused on the fact that anyone can be affected by sexual assault and rape culture. It’s something that’s applicable to all identities, so we included as many voices as possible," said Tatum Hammond of Associated Students of the University of Arizona, co-director of the campaign.

"I’ve had experiences I would never want other people to have, and I know that through this campaign we are educating and supporting our student community," said another student, a freshman biochemistry major who asked not to be identified by name. "Hopefully this campaign will change our campus culture, make students more aware, and spread far and wide to other universities around the country. The UA is setting the bar, and this campaign is changing the pace for our campus."
