Beginning this year, the University of Arizona will hold one annual, university-wide commencement ceremony at the conclusion of each spring semester. December graduates may choose to walk in the commencement ceremony in May, either the semester prior to or after their official graduation. University officials said the decision was made to allow all students to participate in the larger, grander event held in May.

The UA will hold its 150th Commencement on May 17 at the Arizona Stadium at 7:30 p.m.

“We’re working hard to recognize the most significant moment in every student’s college career. Last year, we moved Commencement to Arizona Stadium to ensure every member of a graduate’s family could take part and celebrate this outstanding accomplishment, as well as a finale no one will soon forget,” said Kasey Urquidez, associate vice president and dean of admissions. “Graduating from the University of Arizona deserves a memorable send-off and now every student who graduates will have the opportunity to walk as one and to share the same experience.”

Colleges will continue to hold convocation ceremonies to recognize individual graduates at the end of both spring and fall semesters, Urquidez said. That also will include the hooding ceremonies for doctoral students.
