Producing Special Effects in Science Fiction Movies
The UA Hanson Film Institute presents a talk by Academy Award-nominated visual effects producer John Kilkenny titled "Producing Special Effects in Science Fiction Movies."
Kilkenny is an executive vice president at Twentieth Century Fox where he heads the visual effects department. He oversaw the effects for "Night at the Museum," "X-Men: The Last Stand," "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," Aliens vs. Predator- Requiem" and many other movies. He and his team are hard at work on the upcoming "Avatar," written and directed by James Cameron, and a remake of the classic 1951 sci-fi film "The Day the Earth Stood Still." Kilkenny is an alumnus of The University of Arizona and a member of the College of Fine Arts Hanson Film Institute Industry Council.
This presentation is in support of the UA's exploration of space, specifically the Phoenix Mars Mission, which is scheduled to land on the Red Planet on May 25.
