"Revisiting the State of Indigenous Languages" is a national conference developed by the American Indian Language Development Institute with support from the National Science Foundation and the Lannan Foundation. The conference aims to assess and evaluate the status of indigenous languages in the United States. The conference will provide a critical examination of the history of indigenous language vitality as well as the existing documentation and the various methodologies that have been adopted and practiced in an effort to save endangered languages. The conference will convene Native American language speakers, educators, activists, students, linguists and others for reflection and dialogue.
The mission of AILDI is to provide critical training to strengthen efforts to revitalize and promote the use of Indigenous languages across generations. AILDI is housed in the UA College of Education in the Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies department.
