The University of Arizona gymnastics team opened its season last week and will have its first home meet on Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. in the McKale Center.
And mark your calendars: The Pac-12 Network will televise the Wildcats' home meet against rival Arizona State on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m.
With 13 gymnasts returning for coach Bill Ryden, three freshmen were added to the roster: Madison Cindric, a physiology major; Kennady Schneider, who is studying journalism and photography; and Victoria Ortiz, a criminal justice major.
Cindric, a native of Lantana, Texas, was a Junior Olympic National qualifier in 2011 and was awarded third in the the Junior Olympic National all-around in 2013. She also was a Junior Olympic team member in 2013.
Schneider, from Henderson, Nevada, previously competed for 10 years at Gymcats in Las Vegas. She qualified for nationals in 2012 and 2014 and also for the National Invite Tournament in 2014. She was the state bar and floor champion in 2014.
Ortiz, from Tucson, qualified for the National Invitational Tournament in 2014.
The Jan. 16 quad meet also will include Illinois-Chicago, Sacramento State and Wisconsin-Stout. After the home opener, the Wildcats will head to the University of California, Los Angeles, for a Jan. 19 meet that will air on the Pac-12 Network.
