By creating a new class of synthetic, hybrid materials with intriguing physical properties, researchers have demonstrated the ability to generate giant nonlinear interactions between phonons – the physical particles that transmit vibrations. The work paves the way for a new class of radiofrequency devices that are smaller, require less signal strength and use less battery power.
