With the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer already garnering more than 53 million views in advance of its December opening, Arizona Athletics' video team, known as the Digital Gurus, wanted to capitalize on the momentum by producing an adaptation for the Wildcats’ upcoming football season. Using already compiled visuals, the Gurus felt they could match the dialogue of the trailer in a way that would fit the UA football message.
On-campus recruiting coordinator Matt Dudek came up with the title "Bear Down: The Force Awakens," which also describes what head coach Rich Rodriguez, his staff and the student-athletes have accomplished with the program. The video was edited by Mike Hausler with graphics from Carlos Moreno and color correcting from Ryan Bloom. In addition, Moreno and Bloom captured a large portion of the original video housed within the trailer.
The Digital Gurus have made a name for themselves in college athletics with their series of trailers. From the original "Hard Edge" videos to last year’s "Arizona Speed" clip, the buzz created by their work has provided support for the football program’s promotional and recruiting efforts.
